I have always had a love of antiques and objects from the past. I enjoy the memories and feelings they evoke and reawaken inside me. I have a particular fondness and fascination of old watches. My mother and my mother-in-law both passed on to me the rose gold watches given to them by their parents when they graduated from high school. My very dear friend, Vicki, died in her early teens. I was so touched when her mother shared a fun political watch with me that belonged to Vicki. I start each day by putting my grandmother's watch on my wrist. At the time, I had no idea these keepsakes would inspire my future art work.
Losing such a good friend at a young age, and the health issues that I have dealt with myself, have helped me to understand how precious time is. I wanted a way to incorporate treasures of the past into fashionable and fun jewelry of the present. I decided I liked the idea of making jewelry from the old watches of years gone by. Thus, "Bitz of Time" was born.
I design and handcraft each piece using old watches...their faces, gears, hands, any usable part. Many of the older watches and time pieces no longer work as "time keepers" but they can be made into beautiful jewelry that can always be a reminder of the gift of time. Each piece of jewelry is a unique treasure that I hope reflects my love of art, glass, things of the past, and my zeal for life.
I live in Hastings, MN outside of the Minneapolis area, with my husband, Jim. The love of family and friends blesses and inspires me everyday.
